Finance Officer

Job Description
Due to recent expansion, we are looking for a Finance Officer to join our family-run plant nursery team.
Sulney Nursery has recently de-merged from its successful sister company Carrier Landscapes, having grown from strength to strength since 1989. Therefore, we are looking for a driven individual to join our nursery team and work alongside the Finance Team within Carrier Landscapes. The working hours are Monday to Friday 8.00 am – 4.00 pm, and you will be on a full-time permanent contract.
You will be required to work 37.5 hours per week, and the salary for this role will be up to £35,000 per annum depending on experience, this will be negotiable to the correct candidate.
We have a wonderful team in our Finance Department who will provide full training, guidance, and give you the support you require to grow with our company.
Job Purpose
To manage all finance and accounting operations within the Nursery.
To provide timely and insightful business information.
To oversee all inventory control processes.
Main Responsibilities
Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
Prepare and publish timely monthly performance and financial reports.
Manage a small team to deliver accurate business information to be utilised in ‘Production’ and ‘Operations’.
Oversee the inventory processes.
Prepare and post monthly accruals, prepayments and similar accounting entries.
Budgeting and forecasting.
Leading the analysis of monthly and quarterly numbers and presenting findings to the Operations Director.
Dealing with working capital management and production of cash flow forecasts.
Action and Manage Payroll, VAT, HMRC and Pension processes.
Manage all accounting operations including, Invoicing, Bank Reconciliation, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, VAT.
Responsible for I.T. within the business including the stock control system Growmaster.
Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
Support month-end and year-end close process.
Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Additional controller duties as necessary.
Close liaison with the Finance Team
To be successful in this role, we believe that you need the following attributes.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in a business or financial environment
Good quality of leadership and staff management skills
Good I.T. skills
Experience with Growmaster desirable but not essential
High level of interpersonal and communication skills – able to interact at all business levels
High attention to detail
Exceptional honesty and integrity
Good organisational and problem-solving skills
Intermediate level using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Good knowledge and understanding of SAGE software
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or master's degree in accounting, finance or business (preferred)
CIMA F2 Financial Management
AAT certificate or diploma in accounting or book-keeping
